A Breezy Open House
Ahoy Sebago! On Sunday, September 8, our last open house of the season, we welcomed more than 60 guests and the sudden arrival of autumn weather. Wind conditions made it a somewhat challenging day for novice paddlers and rowers! Thank you to all the trip leaders who so readily adapted and made it safe and enjoyable for everyone to get out on the water. Our guests seemed tired but happy when they returned to shore, whether they had gone out in the big canoe, a kayak, the dory, or enjoyed a sail. Many people expressed interest in joining.
We also had a full complement of on-land volunteers keeping things coordinated — none of the land crew had any complaints about the sunny, cooler weather! It was great to see so many of our newer members helping out. Yesterday may have been both the fastest set up and end-of-day clean up yet, thank you everyone for pitching in wherever needed.
I also want to acknowledge the behind-the-scenes volunteers who did so much work mowing, weeding, and sprucing up the grounds before the Open House. Kudos to them.
And, of course, everyone was able to enjoy a post-paddle volunteer barbeque courtesy of the stalwart grill team, who unfailingly make sure everyone volunteering for an open house ends the day well-fed.
Thank you to everyone who helped make our 2024 community programs so successful.
