City of Water Day Open House 2024
Ahoy! What an intrepid crew! Storm warnings and flood alerts didn’t daunt any of you. Everyone showed up this morning (in the rain) ready to welcome our guests and get them on the water in kayaks, canoes, rowing vessels, and sail boats. And our club-wide glass-half-full attitude paid off! The clouds lifted, and the sun came out.
We were joined by over 50 visitors who shared our optimism, including almost 40 students from local area schools, ages 7 to 17, sponsored by Senator Roxanne Persaud’s office. The kids came with a great deal of enthusiasm and the lighter-than-usual crowd provided them the opportunity try more than on type of boat.
Thank you to everyone who pitched in and made this such a great day for our visitors — from those who greeted the guests, answered questions, doled out snacks and water bottles, to those who organized trips and got people into boats and out of the water. Everyone certainly made all our guests feel welcome!
A shout out to the food prep team who with only two grills and a couple of folding tables serving as a kitchen once again managed to put together an impressive BBQ for the volunteers. I don’t know how they do it and so cheerfully.
And, of course, thank you to those who stayed to the very end and got everything cleaned up and put away.
Reservations just opened for the August 10 Open House, and we already have 6 people who’ve reserved tickets!
Thank you all for supporting Sebago’s community outreach!

Thank you so much to all the volunteers and community members of Sebago Canoe Club! I was so grateful for the opportunity to try kayaking, sit on top kayaking, and rowing in a gig. All the leaders and volunteers made me feel welcome and encouraged. I’ll be back again for sure!
This was such a beautiful experience for myself and my students. We were happy to be there and look forward to having the billion oyster project come visit us at Transit Tech High School. Thanks Sebago and senator Persaud!
