2024 Season Opener
Our on-water season officially launched this weekend, with the sailors hosting the inaugural Brooklyn Urban Sunfish Championship on Saturday, followed by Sunday’s All-Club Invitational event. Kayaks, the big canoes, and the gig all were on the water!
Not only did many of our own members kick off their 2024 season, but both events welcomed other metropolitan area sailors, paddlers, and rowers to join us.
Even the weather cooperated — we had enough wind for the sailors and not too much wind for the paddlers! More than two-dozen sailboats raced on Saturday, and on Sunday an impressive flotilla of 49 kayakers paddled to Ruffle Bar, joined by other members and guests in the two big canoes and the gig. All returned safely for a convivial (and also impressive!) BBQ and the chance to enjoy socializing with friends old and new.
We couldn’t have so successfully hosted more than 100 people this past weekend without the efforts of all the volunteers — on land and on the water, from prep to clean-up and everything in between. Thank you one and all!!!
Anyone paddling, sailing, or just puttering around at the club this holiday weekend, please help yourself to extra food in the fridge.
Next up, in early June, we will begin our series of new membership days, and we’ll greet and provide orientation to about 50 new members.
Don’t forget that after Memorial Day our gates will be open on the weekends and we will need ambassadors of the day to staff Saturday and Sunday morning and afternoon shifts to be on hand to greet any visitors.
